Can We At Least Debate Now, Al?

Phil Jones is the director of the Climatic Research Unit (CRU) of the University of East Anglia. The CRU is one of the primary sources of ammunition for global-warming alarmists. Jones also maintains the time series of the “instrumental temperature record.” This document heavily influenced the authors of the “2001 IPCC Third Assessment Report Summary for Policymakers.”  This assessment concluded the following:

  1. An increasing body of observations gives a collective picture of a warming world and other changes in the climate system
  2. Emissions of greenhouse gases and aerosols due to human activities continue to alter the atmosphere in ways that are expected to affect the climate
  3. Confidence in the ability of models to project future climate has increased
  4. There is new and stronger evidence that most of the warming observed over the last 50 years is attributable to human activities
  5. Human influences will continue to change atmospheric composition throughout the 21st century
  6. Global average temperature and sea level are projected to rise

Why is this important? This report is supposed to show scientific consensus on the subject of global warming. It is also the foundation on which the Copenhagen Treaty is built upon. The Copenhagen Treaty endorses the continuation of the Kyoto Protocol, and in no uncertain terms, blames industrialized nations for causing global warming. I’ve read the draft document and draft amendments and it is truly a political document that blames developed nations for causing global warming. Furthermore, it seeks to punish these nations financially and to redistribute wealth to developing nations. We are talking trillions of dollars.

Does this affect America? Of course it does. Cap and Trade, carbon credits, and other legislation is the direct result of the past decade or so of man-made global warming hysteria led by the likes of Al Gore and Phil Jones. Gore stands to become a carbon billionaire due to his ownership of and association with various carbon offset/trading companies. Other companies like GE stand to make billions or trillions of dollars thanks to the mandated sale of climate-friendly products such as re-engineered light bulbs. Global Warming fears are the basis of a multi-trillion dollar industry.

Here are some quotes from the leaders of the AGW movement:

  • “We will face a string of terrible catastrophes unless we act to prepare ourselves and deal with the underlying causes of global warming.” Al Gore
  • “Not only is it real, it’s here, and its effects are giving rise to a frighteningly new global phenomenon: the man-made natural disaster.” Barack Obama
  • “We are facing a global climate crisis. It is deepening. We are entering a period of consequences.” Al Gore
  • “We stand warned by serious and credible scientists across the world that time is short and the dangers are great.” John McCain

As you can see, world leaders have been buying what Phil Jones is selling. Al Gore will tell you that the science is proven, the debate is over. He will not hear that there are plenty of scientists that disagree with him. But things seem to be changing. In a recent BBC interview Jones — one of the leading voices in the man-made global warming movement — happened to admit a few things.  Jones said:

  • there has been no statistically significant warming in recent years
  • he acknowledged the likelihood of warmer periods in the past (such as the Medieval Warm Period)
  • he admitted to manipulating key data to support global warming hysteria.

In other words, he has admitted that everything that the press and governments all over the world have bought hook, line and sinker, is a lie. The world has been warmer before.  There has been no warming in recent years. And data was manipulated.

Yet for some reason my friends that believe man is causing temperatures to rise cannot accept the possibility that they are on the wrong side of the argument. Scientists have shown that human impact on greenhouse gases is statistically insignificant. I’ve argued for years that the bright yellow thing in the sky has more to do with temperature fluctuations than anything humans could do. But they refuse to listen to opinions other than their own. “What do you mean dude? Are you against conservation?” “What’s the worst that could happen? We will get a better planet out of all of these recommendations, right?”

Wrong.

Pursuit of global warming legislation will add an unbearable load an already massively stressed American financial condition. The taxes and penalties imposed on companies under a cap and trade scheme will cause greater unemployment and price increases.  Al Gore and his ilk need to sit back and shut the hell up for a while. President Obama needs to open up his ears and listen to the idea that man-made global warming is NOT a foregone proven scientific fact. He said in his first State of the Union speech “I know that there are those who disagree with the overwhelming scientific evidence on climate change.” Overwhelming? I’d like to see the data on that.

He continued: “But here’s the thing — even if you doubt the evidence, providing incentives for energy-efficiency and clean energy are the right thing to do for our future.”

I think most Americans can agree that energy efficiency, conservation, recycling and the like are good things to do. I also think that most Americans can agree that committing trillions of dollars to an unproven concept is a bad thing. Liberals cannot separate the two, conservatives can. We CAN be environmentally conscious AND fiscally responsible. It’s not an all or nothing situation.

The title says it all. These quotes come from the 2009 US Senate Minority Report on the topic of Global Warming. Let me be clear to my friends: I recognize that the Earth’s temperature changes. But I assert that humans do not have a statistically significant effect on the temperature change, nor do I think we can alter it. Therefore, the Copenhagen Treaty is nothing more than a power grab and a global attempt to punish America and other capitalist countries both financially and politically. Now, read these quotes below and then ask yourself “why the hell won’t Al Gore let anyone debate him on this topic?”

“I am a skeptic…Global warming has become a new religion.” – Nobel Prize Winner for Physics, Ivar Giaever.

“Since I am no longer affiliated with any organization nor receiving any funding, I can speak quite frankly….As a scientist I remain skeptical…The main basis of the claim that man’s release of greenhouse gases is the cause of the warming is based almost entirely upon climate models. We all know the frailty of models concerning the air-surface system.” – Atmospheric Scientist Dr. Joanne Simpson, the first woman in the world to receive a PhD in meteorology, and formerly of NASA, who has authored more than 190 studies and has been called “among the most preeminent scientists of the last 100 years.”

Warming fears are the “worst scientific scandal in the history…When people come to know what the truth is, they will feel deceived by science and scientists.” – UN IPCC Japanese Scientist Dr. Kiminori Itoh, an award-winning PhD environmental physical chemist.

“The IPCC has actually become a closed circuit; it doesn’t listen to others. It doesn’t have open minds… I am really amazed that the Nobel Peace Prize has been given on scientifically incorrect conclusions by people who are not geologists.” – Indian geologist Dr. Arun D. Ahluwalia at Punjab University and a board member of the UN-supported International Year of the Planet.

“So far, real measurements give no ground for concern about a catastrophic future warming.” -  Scientist Dr. Jarl R. Ahlbeck, a chemical engineer at Abo Akademi University in Finland, author of 200 scientific publications and former Greenpeace member.

“Anyone who claims that the debate is over and the conclusions are firm has a fundamentally unscientific approach to one of the most momentous issues of our time.” – Solar physicist Dr. Pal Brekke, senior advisor to the Norwegian Space Centre in Oslo. Brekke has published more than 40 peer-reviewed scientific articles on the sun and solar interaction with the Earth.

“The models and forecasts of the UN IPCC “are incorrect because they only are based on mathematical models and presented results at scenarios that do not include, for example, solar activity.” – Victor Manuel Velasco Herrera, a researcher at the Institute of Geophysics of the National Autonomous University of Mexico

“It is a blatant lie put forth in the media that makes it seem there is only a fringe of scientists who don’t buy into anthropogenic global warming.” – U.S Government Atmospheric Scientist Stanley B. Goldenberg of the Hurricane Research Division of NOAA.

“Even doubling or tripling the amount of carbon dioxide will virtually have little impact, as water vapour and water condensed on particles as clouds dominate the worldwide scene and always will.” – . Geoffrey G. Duffy, a professor in the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering of the University of Auckland, NZ.

After reading [UN IPCC chairman] Pachauri’s asinine comment [comparing skeptics to] Flat Earthers, it’s hard to remain quiet.” – Climate statistician Dr. William M. Briggs, who specializes in the statistics of forecast evaluation, serves on the American Meteorological Society’s Probability and Statistics Committee and is an Associate Editor of Monthly Weather Review.

“The Kyoto theorists have put the cart before the horse. It is global warming that triggers higher levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, not the other way round…A large number of critical documents submitted at the 1995 U.N. conference in Madrid vanished without a trace. As a result, the discussion was one-sided and heavily biased, and the U.N. declared global warming to be a scientific fact,” Andrei Kapitsa, a Russian geographer and Antarctic ice core researcher.

“I am convinced that the current alarm over carbon dioxide is mistaken…Fears about man-made global warming are unwarranted and are not based on good science.”Award Winning Physicist Dr. Will Happer, Professor at the Department of Physics at Princeton University and Former Director of Energy Research at the Department of Energy, who has published over 200 scientific papers, and is a fellow of the American Physical Society, The American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the National Academy of Sciences.

“Nature’s regulatory instrument is water vapor: more carbon dioxide leads to less moisture in the air, keeping the overall GHG content in accord with the necessary balance conditions.” – Prominent Hungarian Physicist and environmental researcher Dr. Miklós Zágoni reversed his view of man-made warming and is now a skeptic. Zágoni was once Hungary’s most outspoken supporter of the Kyoto Protocol.

“For how many years must the planet cool before we begin to understand that the planet is not warming? For how many years must cooling go on?” – Geologist Dr. David Gee the chairman of the science committee of the 2008 International Geological Congress who has authored 130 plus peer reviewed papers, and is currently at Uppsala University in Sweden.

“Gore prompted me to start delving into the science again and I quickly found myself solidly in the skeptic camp…Climate models can at best be useful for explaining climate changes after the fact.” – Meteorologist Hajo Smit of Holland, who reversed his belief in man-made warming to become a skeptic, is a former member of the Dutch UN IPCC committee.

“The quantity of CO2 we produce is insignificant in terms of the natural circulation between air, water and soil… I am doing a detailed assessment of the UN IPCC reports and the Summaries for Policy Makers, identifying the way in which the Summaries have distorted the science.” – South Afican Nuclear Physicist and Chemical Engineer Dr. Philip Lloyd, a UN IPCC co-coordinating lead author who has authored over 150 refereed publications.

“Many [scientists] are now searching for a way to back out quietly (from promoting warming fears), without having their professional careers ruined.” – Atmospheric physicist James A. Peden, formerly of the Space Research and Coordination Center in Pittsburgh.

“All those urging action to curb global warming need to take off the blinkers and give some thought to what we should do if we are facing global cooling instead.” – Geophysicist Dr. Phil Chapman, an astronautical engineer and former NASA astronaut, served as staff physicist at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology)

“Creating an ideology pegged to carbon dioxide is a dangerous nonsense…The present alarm on climate change is an instrument of social control, a pretext for major businesses and political battle. It became an ideology, which is concerning.” – Environmental Scientist Professor Delgado Domingos of Portugal, the founder of the Numerical Weather Forecast group, has more than 150 published articles.

“CO2 emissions make absolutely no difference one way or another….Every scientist knows this, but it doesn’t pay to say so…Global warming, as a political vehicle, keeps Europeans in the driver’s seat and developing nations walking barefoot.” – Dr. Takeda Kunihiko, vice-chancellor of the Institute of Science and Technology Research at Chubu University in Japan.

“The [global warming] scaremongering has its justification in the fact that it is something that generates funds.- Award-winning Paleontologist Dr. Eduardo Tonni, of the Committee for Scientific Research in Buenos Aires and head of the Paleontology Department at the University of La Plata.

“Whatever the weather, it’s not being caused by global warming. If anything, the climate may be starting into a cooling period.” Atmospheric scientist Dr. Art V. Douglas, former Chair of the Atmospheric Sciences Department at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, and is the author of numerous papers for peer-reviewed publications.

“But there is no falsifiable scientific basis whatever to assert this warming is caused by human-produced greenhouse gasses because current physical theory is too grossly inadequate to establish any cause at all.” - Chemist Dr. Patrick Frank, who has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed articles.

“The ‘global warming scare’ is being used as a political tool to increase government control over American lives, incomes and decision making. It has no place in the Society’s activities.” – Award-Winning NASA Astronaut/Geologist and Moonwalker Jack Schmitt who flew on the Apollo 17 mission and formerly of the Norwegian Geological Survey and for the U.S. Geological Survey.

“Earth has cooled since 1998 in defiance of the predictions by the UN-IPCC….The global temperature for 2007 was the coldest in a decade and the coldest of the millennium…which is why ‘global warming’ is now called ‘climate change.’” - Climatologist Dr. Richard Keen of the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences at the University of Colorado.

“I have yet to see credible proof of carbon dioxide driving climate change, yet alone man-made CO2 driving it. The atmospheric hot-spot is missing and the ice core data refute this. When will we collectively awake from this deceptive delusion?” – Dr. G LeBlanc Smith, a retired Principal Research Scientist with Australia’s CSIRO.

Al Gore is poised to make billions in the cap & trade business, one that he has helped create thanks to hype, lies and bad science.

I you are not up to speed: Under a cap and trade system the government sets a nationwide limit on emissions. This is the “cap.”  The goal is to reduce the pollution that companies generate by fining companies that exceed the government-defined limit. Over time the cap is lowered to reduce the amount of pollutants released into the atmosphere. (think of it as a magical pollution limbo bar)  The “trade” part is a so-called market for carbon allowances or credits. Companies that produce less than their limit can sell credits to companies that are over their own limit. Supporters claim that this provides an economic incentive to pollute less. Companies that pollute can pay other companies to be clean.

Analogy: Billy gets a 96/100 on his test. Benny gets a 56/100. In order to pass you need a 60. So, Billy can sell four points from his test score to Benny so that Benny can pass with a 60. Billy still has a 92 and gets to keep his ‘A’, and Benny gets his passing ‘D.’ Take this a step further: If Billy is the shining star in a classroom full of idiots, he can dole out as many points as he wants to the kids that fail regularly and can decide what he wants his grade to be. Potentially, everyone in his class passes and the world is a better place full of “educated” students.

Based on this stellar Gore-inspired logic I’ve decided to create my own business that is similar to his cap/trade carbon credits ventures. We have heard rumblings from Team Obama that people need to eat better and exercise more. The potential exists in a nationalized health care system for coverage to depend on the health of the patient. What do you eat? Do you smoke? How much do you exercise? Well, I’ve got the answer: Calorie Credits!

I can continue to be a big fat-ass and frequent the many lunch buffets that I love as long as I pay someone else to exercise for me. The more exercise they do, the more I can eat. If I only partake in the occasional doughnut perhaps a small donation to the high school football team will suffice. At my side of the spectrum, I’m looking at sponsoring a Kenyan marathon runner.

You may be laughing, but you can’t debate my logic. Calorie credits make as much sense as carbon credits and cap/trade.

Global Scamming: Chapter 2

Al Gore is at it again. First the Oscar and the Nobel Prize for a two hour walk through his mind-numbing presentation and his book. Now he is taking his crusade to an entirely new level. Last night on 60 Minutes we learned that he will be spending $300 million over the next three years on a nationwide ad campaign to spread the message about global warming.

Where the hell is this money coming from? When asked he danced around the answer and said that all of the profits from his book were going toward this, plus the cash from the Nobel Peace Prize. Great. If we are hugely generous perhaps this totals $10M. Where is the other $290M coming from? We won’t know anytime soon because the softball 60 minutes interviewer failed to follow up with the obvious question. (Of course, why should I expect any real questioning of the Goracle by CBS?)

Once upon a time everyone on earth thought that the world was flat. There was no debating this obvious fact. We are now reaching a similar scenario via the rantings of Al Gore and the global warming activist radicals (GWARs). Science usually requires debate, yet if anyone dares to counter Gore’s ‘facts’ they are considered loony, crazy, wacko. So let’s set the tone of this blog entry:

  • I believe the Earth is getting slightly warmer. Slightly.
  • I believe that human contribution to this increase is statistically insignificant.
  • I believe that the billions that Gore and his followers are suggesting be spent will be a huge waste that borders on criminal negligence.
  • I believe that if every suggested remedy to global warming was enacted today that we would alter the temperature of Earth enough to, well, to not do a damned thing we could notice.
  • I believe that countries like India and China, who are responsible for two thirds of industrial carbon emissions, couldn’t care less about enacting change.
  • I believe that global warming activists are unwilling to engage in debate because they are more concerned about standing for something than they are about facts.

Here are some facts that the press or Al Gore won’t report on:

  • That big arctic glacier the size of Connecticut that GWARs are screaming about hasn’t floated away. In fact, it was “in danger” of separating,” it never actually separated. Furthermore, the crack was most likely caused by the combination of increased underwater volcanic activity in the area combined with an earthquake. But really, this point is moot since the winter freeze came and the whole area froze back together.
  • 96.5% of all carbon dioxide emissions are from natural sources, mankind is responsible for only 3.5%, with 0.6% coming from fuel to move vehicles, and about 1% from fuel to heat buildings. Even if humans stopped emitting carbon dioxide entirely effect on the world would be negligible.
  • For the past 10,000 years, the Earth has actually been cooling.
  • Science shows us that arctic ice is actually expanding. Here’s a picture:
So if you happen to believe that Global Warming is a legitimate issue that humans simply must do something about, and you base this on recent data showing an increase in temperatures going back about a hundred years, I encourage you to view the first 6 minutes of the first video listed below:
  1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FOLkze-9GcI
  2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vN06JSi-SW8

  4. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpQQGFZHSno
Here’s something worth reading (thanks to Newsbusters):
“Al Gore stands to make a ton of money from the hysteria he is creating. Gore buys his carbon offsets through Generation Investment Management. It may be interesting to note that Gore helped found Generation Investment Management, through which he and others pay for offsets. The firm invests the money in solar, wind and other projects that reduce energy consumption around the globe. Gore is chairman of the firm and, presumably, draws an income or will make money as its investments prosper. In other words, he “buys” his “carbon offsets” from himself, through a transaction designed to boost his own investments and return a profit to himself. To be blunt, Gore doesn’t buy “carbon offsets” through Generation Investment Management – he buys stocks.”
But it gets better.
“According to their own documents, GIM intends to invest in, or buy companies poised to cash in on Global Warming concerns. Putting this in perspective, for years the left and their media minions have posited that George W. Bush started war with Iraq to benefit the company Vice President Dick Cheney used to run, Halliburton, as well as Bush’s oil tycoon friends. In fact, there have been times when you couldn’t swing a dead cat in any pressroom in this nation without hitting a reporter working on such a story.
Yet, as the former Vice President continues to plug global warming as a coming crisis in need of immediate attention, the same media completely ignore his obvious financial conflicts of interest. No liberal media bias there”

The main point of my rant is that Al Gore is pushing junk science on a gullible world that is willing to spend billions to make themselves feel better. There are so many other things this money could be spent on, yet the lemmings don’t care. Yet Gore alone is about to spend $300M to advertise and brainwash the masses on what could be considered the greatest scam in recent history. I wonder how he can sleep at night.

“We don’t have a trillion-dollar debt because we haven’t taxed enough; we have a trillion-dollar debt because we spend too much.” — Ronald Reagan
