Six Lessons

On August 8, 2011, in Economy, by TheLoudTalker

A co-worker forwarded me an email that makes so much sense I have no choice but to post it. The following list of lessons comes from Umair Haque via twitter. Dear Congress, dear Mr. President. Stop everything you are doing and read these. They are short enough to fit into your schedule, and simple enough to understand.

  • The first lesson is: when you don’t reinvent institutions at a time of systemic failure, the problem doesn’t just magically disappear.
  • The second lesson is: when you prop up the institutions causing the crisis, instead of reinventing them, the crisis will deepen.
  • The third lesson is: when dysfunctional institutions prop one another up, prosperity’s a house of cards. Crisis becomes stagnation.
  • The fourth lesson is: when propping up failed institutions has drained your resources, you’ve turned a crisis into a catastrophe.
  • The fifth lesson is: the longer it takes you to see a crisis for what it truly is, the disproportionately worse it’s likely to get.
  • The sixth lesson is: when people who are prisoners of the paradigm that caused the crisis are in charge of fixing it, bet on… more crisis.
Cut out the partisan bickering. Stop the divisive messaging. Do your damned jobs!

The Biggest Weener In Congress?

On December 9, 2010, in Politics, by TheLoudTalker

Sorry, meant to spell it “Weiner,” as in NY 9th District Congressman Anthony Weiner. Just my personal opinion here, but this pathetic display provides yet another fine example of why voting matters. If you aren’t going to pay attention, please stay away from the voting booth.

Stop Whining Congress, Bunning is RIGHT!

On March 2, 2010, in Politics, by TheLoudTalker

Senator Jim Bunning (R-KY) is 100% correct. Congress cannot afford more spending, Bunning has proposed a way to pay for the extended benefits, but Democrats have rejected it. Have you heard that in the news? Probably not. And as expected, liberals of all sorts are whining about how evil the senator is for daring to deny poor victims their benefits. Like fussy teenagers liberals latch on to the emotional mindset of “I WANT IT” with no regard for how to pay for it. Grow up liberals and find a way to pay for these benefits. Or, listen to Senator Bunning and pull the $11B needed out of the stagnant and useless stimulus funds. It would be nice to see those dollars actually used for something, right?

Blow Out Congress: My new favorite web site

On August 11, 2009, in Politics, by TheLoudTalker

Short and simple: All congressional peeps need to go. We need a do-over and this very useful site will help us achieve this goal. Our government has strayed far, far away from the intents of our Founding Fathers. Please visit this site and be sure to click the “Blow Out List” link at the left of the page.

As stated at this site: “BlowOutCongress.com was created by nationally recognized radio talk show host and personality, Jeff Bolton.  In acknowledging that virtually all of the problems America faces today are traceable directly to an ineffective sometimes corrupt congress, Bolton created BlowOutCongress.com to take back our country one incumbent at a time.  Our founding fathers never intended congress to become a campground or a ruling elite.  Rather congress was designed to have a constant ever changing supply of fresh American DNA and ideas.  BlowOutCongress.com advocates the complete replacement of all 535 members of congress in the next election cycles.  This effort is not associated with or affiliated with any political party.”

The Mexico / Al Qaeda Connection

On February 19, 2009, in Politics, by TheLoudTalker

Last week Glenn Beck had a segment with Michael Scheuer (author of “Marching Toward Hell”) about the too often overlooked problem with our porous southern border. If for a moment we put aside the very real illegal immigration issues of crime, drugs, violence, and disease and their impact on America’s economy and infrastructure, there is a larger concern: national security. Please watch this segment, the meat starts around 1:30:

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xt-rzVMLkjY]

Some of Scheuer’s comments:

  • “They do nothing and they suppress the information, Glenn. They don’t tell you how many Arabs they catch every month.”
  • “Our political elite does not care about protecting Americans.”
  • “Well, Look at our borders sir. If national defense doesn’t include border control, then national defense is nonsense.”
  • “They want to play games at home, they want to stay in power forever. they want their office, they don’t want to protect the United States. They somehow think that America is eternal and can never be defeated. They are going to be in for a great wake up call, sir.

Whether or not you like Glenn Beck, whether nor not you think Fox News is biased Conservative drivel or real news, you can’t dispute Scheuer’s points. What do we do about it? Contact your representatives and senators. Get border security on their radar again. Don’t even mention illegal immigrants in your message. I’ve been saying for years that a major reason to secure our borders is to secure the future of our country and its citizens. Do we need another 9/11 to make this point to Congress? I pray not.
