Biden Gets It Right re: Afghanistan

On October 12, 2009, in Politics, by TheLoudTalker

See. I’m not an anti-American Democrat hater. I love America and want it to succeed. Here’s an example where I completely agree with Joe Biden, and I’m not being sarcastic.

Joe Biden had a question. During a long Sunday meeting with President Obama and top national-security advisers on Sept. 13, the VP interjected,

“Can I just clarify a factual point? How much will we spend this year on Afghanistan?” Someone provided the figure: $65 billion.

“And how much will we spend on Pakistan?” Another figure was supplied: $2.25 billion.

“Well, by my calculations that’s a 30-to-1 ratio in favor of Afghanistan. So I have a question. Al Qaeda is almost all in Pakistan, and Pakistan has nuclear weapons. And yet for every dollar we’re spending in Pakistan, we’re spending $30 in Afghanistan. Does that make strategic sense?”

The White House Situation Room fell silent. But the questions had their desired effect: those gathered began putting more thought into Pakistan as the key theater in the region.

If this Joe Biden was present during the election I think more Americans would have confidence in him. After all, wasn’t he selected to add international experience to the Obama ticket, to shore up a gap in Obama’s resume? Violence is increasing, troop fatalities are increasing, and the enemy is much more confident than it was while George W. Bush was in charge. Could it be because our president is clueless and hesitant when it comes to military affairs? I hope he listens to Joe on this one.

CAFE Standards Will Kill More Than Iraq War

On May 21, 2009, in Politics, by TheLoudTalker

The Obama admnistration is high on CAFE standards. But research has suggested that making calls smaller, a requirement to meet these rushed mileage standards, will kill more Americans than the Iraq War.

The National Academy of Sciences has linked mileage standards with about 2,000 deaths per year. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that every 100-pound reduction in the weight of small cars increases annual traffic fatalities by as much as 715. In contrast in the more than six years since the Iraq war began, there have been 4,296 deaths among American military personnel.

Jack Cafferty – Partisan Biased Ass

On April 30, 2009, in Politics, by TheLoudTalker

CNN blow hard Jack Cafferty has crossed a line, in my humble yet loud opinion. Read this short little essay, or just enjoy a few Liberal nuggets from his diatribe:

  • Nobody is interested anymore, Mr. Vice President. You and your gaggle of miscreants had your shot, and we are in the toilet because of it. Don’t you get it?”
  • “{bush] more than doubled the national debt in eight years and gave $700 billion to its buddies on Wall Street, no questions asked. You’re a little short on credibility when it comes to the economy, don’t you think?”
  • “[The Bush Administration] authorized the United States of America to behave like some Third World gang of hoodlums like the Taliban or al Qaeda.”
  • [on Dick Cheney] “Now our reputation is shot, we are bankrupt, we continue to fight two wars that you started and the economy is in the worst recession since the Great Depression. And you have the temerity to go around criticizing those who replaced you? How dare you?”

HOW DARE YOU Mr. Cafferty? How dare you! Maybe you haven’t noticed due to your apparent love for the quality news sources and research espoused by Keith Olberdork, but Americans do not behead, break bones, cut skin, remove body parts, stone to death or shoot people in the back. How dare YOU, Mr. Cafferty, compare our troops to Al Qaeda/Taliban. Have you been spending some quality time with Jack Murtha ripping our soldiers and getting your egregious lies in sync? You have seriously crossed a line by comparing our troops to our enemies.

You have done nothing more in this article but propagate the Left mantra: I know I am just one of those crazy conservative potential terrorists, but let me set you straight, if that is even possible.

  1. Bush did not create this economic situation. It started long ago thanks to Carter and bad loans. Clinton made it worse. Bush tried to blow the whistle but was blocked by Frank, Dodd, et al. Don’t YOU get it Jack? Apparently not.
  2. Yes, Bush doubled the debt. But if you look at the numbers our economy was growing and debt was decreasing, until the bailouts that most Americans opposed were made. Even then, President Obama has since quadrupled our debt and the long term ramifications are even worse. $700M is a bargain these days in an Obama Nation.
  3. How dare YOU, Mr. Cafferty, compare our troops that have kept your misinformed and wildly partisan ass safe for the past eight years to Al Qaeda!

This article from Mr. Jack Cafferty has motivated me to create a new award. Olbermann has his “Worst Person in the World,” “O’Reilly has “Patriots and Pin Heads.” I’m jumping into the fray and am proud to announce the Loud Talker’s Jack-Ass Of The Week. Congratulations Jack, you’ve earned your namesake.

Where's the angst toward Hamas?

On January 5, 2009, in Politics, by TheLoudTalker

There exists a horribly disproportionate amount of anti-Israel angst in the world, as seen in human protests, news coverage and in blogs. The UN (U as in “useless”) has done nothing to prevent Hamas from slowing its rain of missiles into Israel. The only news we seem to hear includes videos of Palestinian suffering and death. Where are the videos of Israeli suffering? Why isn’t there an Israeli marketing arm to counter the lies so often publicized by the media?

  • In June 2008 Egypt brokered an Israel/Hamas truce, effective June 19. Not even a week later Hamas broke the truce. Israel honored the cease-fire.
  • In December as the end of the six-month truce approched, Hamas political leader Khaled Meshal stated that the group would not renew the truce with Israel. Two days later, Hamas Islamists declared the end of the Egyptian-brokered ceasefire (one day before it expired on December 19) and initiated a surge of cross-border fighting.
  • On December 24 Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip increased rocket fire towards Israel.
  • Eight days after the truce ended, on December 27, Israel retaliates by launching air strikes on Gaza in response to almost daily rocket and mortar fire that intensified after Hamas ended the ceasefire. The Israeli army says Palestinian militants fired 300 rockets and mortars at Israeli targets during that past week.

Yet all we seem to hear on the news is that Israel is an army of baby killers? Israel is the country that needs to exercise restraint? Let’s look at some more history:

  • The region was already familiar with territory disputes. After all, Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Syria and Iraq were established when the British and the French arbitrarily divided up the Middle East at the close of World War I. Israel was created by the United Nations. Somehow this same group has turned 180-degrees since then.
  • So how did Israel become a state? In September 1947 the United Nations Special Committee on Palestine (UNSCOP) recommended partitioning Palestine, a suggestion ratified by the UN General Assembly on November 29, 1947. This resulted in the creation of two states: one Arab and one Jewish. Jerusalem would be under the direct administration of the UN.
  • The intention was an economic union between the two states with open borders. At the time of partition, slightly less than half the land in all of Palestine was owned by Arabs, slightly less than half was “crown lands” belonging to the state, and about 8% was owned by Jews. The allocation of land was intended to produce two areas with Jewish and Arab majorities respectively.
  • The Jews accepted the UN decision, but the Arabs rejected it. In fact, The Arab League declared a war to rid Palestine of the Jews.

Notice that Israel accepted the decision, Arabs rejected it. They had (and still have) absoltely zero tolerance for any living Jew.

In late 1947 Arab riots broke out in Jerusalem. Palestinian forces cut off the supply of food, water and fuel to Jerusalem. Fighting and violence broke out immediately throughout the country, including ambushes, riots and massacres. Arab Palestinians began leaving their towns and villages to escape the fighting. (Fighting instigated by whom? Palestinians. Palestinians started the violence that drove other Palestinians to leave their homes.) Most of the Arab population of Haifa left in early 1948, despite pleas by both Jewish and British officials to stay. You don’t hear this on the news today, do you? Nor do you hear that Egypt, Syria and Jordan also waged war on Israel.

  • In 1948 a cease fire began. During this time Israel prepared for the inevitable fighting that would resume and the Israel Defense Force was created.
  • After the cease fire expired Israel continued fighting with Egypt. When the fighting ended in 1949 Israel held territories beyond the boundaries set by the UN plan – a total of 78% of the area west of the Jordan river. The rest of the area was occupied by Egypt and Jordan. Egypt held Gaza, Jordan held the West Bank.
  • About 750,000 Arabs were driven out of Israel and fled to neighboring Arab states. A similar number of Jews were driven out of those same states, many returning to Israel.
  • In 1949 the UN created a new border in an attempt to create a peaceful solution. However, these borders were not recognized by Arab states, which continued to refuse to recognize Israel.

The Arab countries refused to sign a permanent peace treaty with Israel. The Arabs and Palestinians lost any initial military gains when they failed to organize and unite. A war was fought and won by Israel. But, Arab refusal to acknowledge this fact meant that the borders of Israel established by the armistice commission never received international recognition. The losers failed to recognize the loss. This would happen again.

Israel began to implement its National Water Carrier plan, which would pump water from the Sea of Galilee to irrigate south and central Israel. The project was in accordance with a plan proposed a US envoy in 1955, and agreed to by Arab engineers. However, Arab governments refused to participate, because of the implied recognition of Israel. Years after losing a war with Israel these nations would not recognize the existence of the country that defeated them. Talk about denial…

In the 1960s Arab leaders ratified the establishment of the PLO, and declared their resolve to destroy Israel. Problems escalated when Arabs began attacking the water infrastructure described above. Violence began with attacks on construction equipment and eventually escalated to territorial strikes of increasing magnitude. Again, note that the violence was initiated by Arab actions.

In 1967 the armies of Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Algeria, Kuwait and Sudan were prepared to attack Israel. Egyptian President Nassir said “This act will astound the world. Today they will know that the Arabs are arranged for battle, the critical hour has arrived.” Iraqi President Rahman Aref announced, “This is our opportunity to wipe out the ignominy which has been with us since 1948. Our goal is clear–to wipe Israel off the map.” (sound familiar?)

When it became apparent that Egypt would not stand down, Israel attacked the Egyptians beginning on June 5, 1967. In the first hours of the war, Israel destroyed over 400 enemy aircraft to achieve total air superiority. Israeli troops quickly conquered the Sinai Peninsula and Gaza. Israel conquered the West Bank and Jerusalem. Israel agreed to a cease fire on June 10, 1967 after conquering the Golan Heights. A new reality in the Middle East now existed, yet much of the population still refuses to accept this fact.

There were other military interactions in the years that followed, but my point has been made. Israel has been the one under attack since it’s creation by the UN in 1947. Call it ego, denial, ingornace, hatred, or racism, but it is what it is: Arab nations simply refuse to acknowledge reality. Hamas wants war, it knows nothing else. It embeds within the civilian population and then distributes video of the dead women and children that Hamas used as human shields as anti-Israel propoganda. For this I think they deserve every ounce of lead thrown in their direction, times ten. If they want it to stop, the need to instigate peace for once. Sadly, I doubt this will ever happen.

Loss at any cost: Pelosi is a "selfish bitch"

On October 15, 2007, in Politics, by TheLoudTalker

This post is going to be a little different in tone than most of my family-friendly entries. I am ripping pissed off at Democrats and after you read this you will know why.

Liberals want to end this war at all costs, even if it means endangering more American lives. They can’t de-fund the war nor do they have the skills to negotiate a peaceful ending. In fact, nobody possesses those skills. We are fighting pure evil over there.

Yet Pelosi & Company want to pass a non-binding resolution that brings negative attention to possible the most important ally we have in the war on terror: Turkey. The House leadership does not seem to mind doing damage to our relations with the only democratic and secular Muslim state in the region at a crucial time. Although the intended measure is non-binding, and thus it avoids a presidential veto, that does not make it harmless or intelligent.

The proposed legislation is the Armenian Genocide Resolution (H.Res.316). It’s goal? “Calling upon the President to ensure that the foreign policy of the United States reflects appropriate understanding and sensitivity concerning issues related to human rights, ethnic cleansing, and genocide documented in the United States record relating to the Armenian Genocide, and for other purposes.” At least they are being honest…

Yes, Turkey did bad things to Armenians a long time ago. But I ask the House this: What purpose does this legislation serve? Why now? What will the impact of passing it truly be? Why, with the myriad of other important issues that Congress could be working on, are they trying to push through a resolution that will embarrass and alienate a key ally? Oh, that’s right. They are trying to screw the President at any cost.

WTurkeyell Speaker Mimi, your pal Barbara Boxer is fond of saying “elections have consequences.” Well, so do votes. This legislation is the consummate example of liberal failure to be accountable for one’s actions. They are so focused on attacking the president that they are willing to make it easier for our enemies to kill our troops. They are willing to create long term problems that affect all Americans for the short term gain of attacking the president. It’s the same mindset that Republicans displayed when attacking President Clinton. This time, instead of griping about the cover up of a blow job we are talking about the lives of thousands of our soldiers, and the overall stability of the Middle East. It is bad, it is unproductive, and it is very dangerous.

HOW CAN THEY NOT REALIZE THE IMPACT OF THIS LEGISLATION?

Look at the map above. Turkey is the big green blob to the left. Iraq is the big red blob below Turkey. To the north and south ofTurkey are the Black and Mediterranean Sea. This is where you usually find things like waves, fishies and big damned American military ships that could remove any country from the map if so inclined.

IncirlikNow, here is another map that shows how our military planes have to travel around the region. That little place below the name Turkey on the map is Incirlik, a place that we have an important air base in NATO’s Southern Region. To get supplies (such as improved armor) to our troops without access to Turkey we will have to rely on Syria and Iraq to let us use their airspace. Yeah, right. That’s really gonna happen.

Here is an excellent article on Turkey and the potential impact of this resolution. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has decided to bring to a vote a non-binding resolution declaring the events of 1915 in Eastern Anatolia a “genocide.” Despite its moralistic claims, this is a dangerous—indeed, in the present circumstances, a highly irresponsible—assault on U.S. national interests in Iraq and elsewhere. (source)

Presidents Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton and now George W. Bush all opposed such attempts. The House leadership does not seem to mind doing damage to our relations with the only democratic and secular Muslim state in the region at a crucial time. Although the intended measure is non-binding, and thus it avoids a presidential veto, that does not make it harmless or intelligent. (source)

The administration is trying to kill this legislation before it is too late. President Abdullah Gul of Turkey is telling anyone that will listen that if this is passed it will ireversably change the relationship between Turkey and the US. Here is what the administration is saying:

  • “…this resolution is not the right response to these historic mass killings, and its passage would do great harm to relations with a key ally in NATO, and to the war on terror.”
  • “The passage of this resolution at this time would be very problematic for everything we are trying to do in the Middle East” Condoleesa Rice
  • Turkish president, Abdullah Gul, wrote to Bush to thank him for his efforts opposing the resolution and to draw “attention to the problems it would create in bilateral relations if it is accepted.”

Hello… Congress? Please think about this before you cast a vote. There are serious consequences to this bill. Do you really want to cause more troops to die?

Oh yeah… the “selfish bitch” thing? I’m just quoting Joy Behar and her immature comment about Michelle Malkin. Behar is a has-been comedian but seems to represent the ilk that is the liberal left. So, here’s a taste of your own medicine you clueless bitch.
